Trends in teenage sexual behavior

The national YRBS is taken every two years during the spring semester. It provides important data of 9th through 12th grade students in schools across the country. In the latest edition, it was shown that the percentage of teens who have had sex has been steadily increasing since 2001. It has increased from 45.6 in 2001 to 47.8 in 2007. It was also shown that the use of birth control has decreased over this time period, which may very well be a cause of the increase in teen birth rate. Also, the percentage for use of birth control has dropped from 18.2% in 2001 to 16% in 2007. This means teenagers are engaging in more sexual activity, while reducing the use of birth control.
